Case Analysis: Divya Jyoti Singh V. Union Of India

Shreyanshi Tripathi, a student at Law College Dehradun, Uttaranchal University.

PROCEDURAL BACKGROUND

1. The present case is the result of the Public Interest Litigation filed by the Petitioner named Divya Jyoti Singh directly into the Supreme Court of India. There has been no previous consideration of the issue in any of the lower Courts of the country.

2. However, it is further noted that there is no personal interest of the petitioner in the filing of the PIL and it is with a bonafide intention and a larger public interest is also being involved in this PIL as to make aware to the consumer of the e-commerce industry in India about the Country of Origin of the product so that while purchasing that product the consumer must make a decision in a conscious state.
